Since the opening of the first dispensary in May 2019, Arkansas has sold almost 10,050 pounds of medical marijuana worth $63.37 million, according to a report released by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.
The coronavirus outbreak has seen a slump in the sales of many industries, but the cannabis industry has emerged a winner in the storm.
Green Springs Medical dispensary in Hot Springs alone has sold about 2,000 pounds of medical marijuana in total sales till April 16. It is also the largest dispensary in the state of Arkansas.

Not only was there no decrease in sales, but most dispensaries across the state saw a surge in demand which was fulfilled mostly through a delivery system to meet the strict social distancing norms enforced by most governors across the country.
Medical marijuana was legalized in Arkansas in 2016 but dispensaries could begin operations only in May last year due to legal derailments.
Out of the 35 dispensaries that were awarded licenses initially, only 21 are in operation and they had to pay a $15,000 licensing fee, as well as a $100,000 performance bond.
The industry has been facing further difficulties in terms of advertising as well. Arkansas lawmakers passed a bill that barred medical cannabis companies from advertising to audiences made up of more than 30 percent children, and from placing ads within 1,000 feet of schools or day-cares.
Advertisements also cannot appear on public transit, and stiff restrictions are in place on TV, radio, print media, and online advertising.
Despite these hurdles, the dispensaries have managed to procure profitable sales and new stores are on the horizon soon.
Apart from Green Springs Medical which recorded the highest sales in the state, some of the other notable dispensaries are The Releaf Center in Bentonville with 1,075.84 pounds of sales, Acanza in Fayetteville with 870.77 pounds, The Source in Bentonville which sold 854.78 pounds, and Native Green Wellness in Hensley which sold 833.83 pounds.
